‘Come Together’ is the first song on the Abbey Road album, but the title also epitomises the message behind my artwork – that we should find inspiration in the way various cultures have come together to build a home in Hackney.

I live in Hackney, so I know from experience that it has complex problems but also huge potential. My illustrations are an attempt to capture the essence of the place, to find the joy in everyday life, and to celebrate the borough’s positive elements, such as its diversity.

Clissold Park is where three very different communities intersect - the ultra-orthodox Jewish community in Stamford Hill, the middle classes of Stoke Newington, and the Turks who have made Dalston their home.

The title of this work, ‘The Playground’, has a dual sense. On the one hand, it’s a simple description of the scene, but it is also a metaphor for the vibrancy and variety of life in the neighborhood.
